Certified Nursing Assistant
• CNA1 – 150 hours (75 hours of classroom and 75 hours clinicals)
A Certified Nursing Assistant, also called a CNA, work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, LPN, Physician Assistant, Nurse Practitioner, Medical Doctor, Resident, or other supervisory staff as designated by the health care facility, or supervisor. A CNA provides assistance to patients with daily living tasks and works closely with patients A CNA is responsible for basic care services such as bed making, grooming and vital signs. A CNA may also assist Doctors and Nurses with medical procedures. CNAs give patients important social and emotional support and also provide vital information on patient conditions to nurses, doctors, and other medical staff. Since aides have extensive daily contact with each patient, they are the key to providing vital information on the patients’ conditions to the nurse and doctor. Most CNA’s agree that it is one of the most rewarding challenges that a person in the healthcare industry can undertake.
• CNA1 On-Line Training
Completing a nursing assistant course requires three components:
- Classroom training (51 hours) – this online course replaces this portion only.
- Laboratory skills training and practice (24 hours) – completed in a Pacific HealthCare School classroom.
- Clinical work experience (75 hours) – completed at a work site with real clients

Certified Medication Aide
• CMA – 80 hours (56 hours of classroom and 24 hours clinical practice)
Certified Medication Aides (CMAs) are CNA 1s who have had additional training and are authorized to administer non-injectable medications. Oregon CMAs must complete an OSBN-approved medication aide training program, pass a competency examination approved by the OSBN and receive CMA certification before administering medications. Student must have verification of at least 6 months full time (or equivalent in part-time hours) of employment as a CNA since completing an OSBN approved Nursing Assistant Training program. Student must be a current CNA on the OSBN registry.
